Capilano Suspension Bridge

This winter I got the chance to try something a little bit different. Malcolm had his studio set up at the Capilano Suspension Bridge and was teaching people to make icicles and demonstrating glass blowing. Doreen & I went to the opening night and cheered Malcolm & Larry on as they pulled off pieces in the cold night air.

It was strange to be outdoors in front of the glory hole with its bright orange glow and every pipe or punty that you touched was freezing cold. It seemed like a fun thing to do so Doreen & I arranged a time slot to come and blow glass.

We arranged a time and planned to come and blow Christmas ornaments. It was fun to have people who were visiting the suspension bridge come watch and ask questions about what we were doing.

We got into a good groove and were cranking out some nice C balls. I even got ambitious and tried making a black one with bright dichro. Overall I have to say that didn’t work out so well.

At the beginning of January Doreen had a couple of colleagues who were in Vancouver for work for a couple of months. Marcelo & Fernanda were interested in trying their hand at working hot glass and they got their chance!
