To get the ball rolling on repairs to the cottage Doreen, Sterling and I made a trip down on May 4th to survey the situation and come up with a task list of the projects that needed to be undertaken, estimate the materials that we would need and to prioritize the things that we were planning to do.
Doreen & I headed down on Thursday night after work. When we arrived were disappointed to discover that the previously marginal hot water tank had failed completely and that the “small” leak in the roof had grown to the point that there were a few puddles on the floor.
Working on patching the roof.
The back deck looking sad and in need of repairs!
Jacking up the corner of the cottage so that we can replace the supports (and get the back door to open & close)
After a full days work there is nothing like a cup of “tea”.
Sheila & Manfred ripping nails out after Doreen stripped the old deck.
We kept as much wood as we could for fire wood. Everything else went to the dump (1700 lbs of stuff!)
Todd was the King of the yardwork. GREAT job on making things look so good!
Sterling getting busy holding up the house.
Myrna & our next nephew getting ready to tackle the kitchen. (OK Maybe a niece (:-)
Marion studies the replacement tiles for the kitchen floor and talks with our other neice/nephew about laying tiles. This kid is starting at an early age as an interior designer!
You want me to go under there? Are you kidding? Don’t you know there’s spiders down there?!
Good to be working with all my helpers!
Is it too late to be adding wood preservative?
A feast of ribs and wine to end a long hard days work.
Peter sizing up replacement boards
Sheila tries her hand at laying floor tiles.
Peter is the undisputed King of the Throne!
Its a jungle out there!
Who was that masked man? Graham tackles the flooring at the front of the cottage.
Done for the weekend. Thanks everybody for a HUGE effort to get the cottage back into shape! Great job.
